AP25793987 – Research and application of artificial intelligence to protect against unmanned aerial vehicles
Objective of the project – In the study of modern UAVs and development prospects, AI capabilities, the development of algorithms that improve the recognition and tracking of threats, increasing the reaction speed and accuracy of exposure. The research results will improve the effectiveness of protection against UAV attacks.
Relevance: The relevance of this project is driven by the increasing threats associated with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which pose risks to human safety and critical infrastructure. Existing counter-UAV methods often fail to provide sufficient speed and accuracy in highly dynamic and multi-tasking environments. Therefore, there is a growing need for intelligent systems capable of automatically detecting and classifying threats in real time. The use of artificial intelligence technologies significantly improves data processing efficiency and the accuracy of UAV identification. An important aspect is also the need to adapt protection systems to rapidly evolving technologies and deployment scenarios. Thus, the project is highly relevant as it aims to enhance national security and develop advanced high-tech solutions for countering UAV threats.

Expected and achieved results: Within the project, key stages of the work plan related to the study and analysis of modern unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and countermeasures were successfully completed. A comprehensive analysis of UAV capabilities, existing countermeasure systems, and promising development directions was conducted. Based on this stage, a scientific paper was published in a journal recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In addition, a PhD dissertation was successfully defended as part of the project. At the next stage, artificial intelligence technologies were studied, and a review of their application in UAV detection and countermeasure tasks was conducted. As a result, another scientific article was published. Furthermore, four additional papers were published in journals recommended by the same committee. The project demonstrated a high level of scientific novelty through the integration of modern machine learning and deep neural network methods. The developed approaches enable automated detection, tracking, and recognition of UAVs. As a result, the efficiency of real-time response systems is significantly improved, and a foundation is established for implementing innovative solutions in the field of defense.
