Spin-off projects

Spin-off projects are innovative companies established within the university ecosystem to bring scientific developments, technologies, and engineering solutions to the market. Such companies are formed as limited liability partnerships with the participation of the university, research groups, faculty members, students, as well as external investors and partners.

The main objective of spin-off projects is the transfer of technologies and commercialization of scientific and scientific-technical results developed at Satbayev University. This mechanism effectively connects science, education, and business, creating a sustainable innovation ecosystem within the university.

What is a spin-off

A spin-off is an independent company established on the basis of a scientific development, engineering solution, patent, software product, or another technology developed at the university. Its main purpose is to implement research outcomes in the real sector of the economy, create commercially successful products, and attract investment.

Goals and objectives

Spin-off projects at the university address the following objectives:

  • commercialization of scientific developments and technologies;
  • establishment of new high-tech companies;
  • engagement of faculty members and students in entrepreneurial activities;
  • attraction of investments and strategic partners;
  • development of the university’s innovation and startup ecosystem;
  • creation of sustainable business models based on scientific results.

Regulatory framework

The activities of spin-off companies are governed by the Regulations on the Establishment and Development of Spin-off / Startup Companies of Satbayev University. The document defines the procedure for company formation, university participation as a founder, equity distribution, management, financing, and the use of intellectual property assets.

Current indicators

Currently, the university has 22 spin-off companies, including:

  • 14 spin-off projects established jointly with external enterprises;
  • 8 companies created as a result of commercialization of scientific developments;
  • KZT 2 billion as the total amount of concluded off-take agreements.
