BR18574141 — A comprehensive multi-purpose program to improve energy efficiency and resource-saving in the power and mechanical engineering for the industry of Kazakhstan
Goal of the work: Develop a set of theoretical and practical recommendations to improve energy efficiency and resource saving in the energy sector and mechanical engineering for the industry of Kazakhstan, as well as modernize Kazakhstani solar energy based on modern semiconductor materials and technologies
Relevance of the work: The relevance of the project is driven by the need to improve energy efficiency and resource conservation in Kazakhstan’s industrial sector amid rising energy consumption and limited energy resources. Energy-intensive industries such as mining, oil and gas, and mechanical engineering require the introduction of advanced technological solutions that reduce energy losses and improve equipment reliability. A key aspect is the modernization of solar energy systems based on modern semiconductor materials, including perovskite and heterojunction structures, which significantly enhance solar energy conversion efficiency. The implementation of the project contributes to reducing environmental impact and strengthening national energy security. In the context of increasing energy shortages, the development of such solutions is strategically important for sustainable economic growth.

Results obtained: Within the framework of the research project, comprehensive studies were carried out to improve energy efficiency and resource conservation in Kazakhstan’s energy, mechanical engineering, mining, and oil and gas industries. Technical solutions were developed and tested, including hydroelectric systems utilizing fluid flow energy for power generation and auxiliary starting drives for heavy rotor machines. Existing energy-saving technologies were analyzed, a demonstration setup for reactive power compensation was created, and a technological regulation for a resonance-based energy-saving system was developed. Semiconductor structures for solar energy applications were investigated, including perovskite, heterojunction, and organic solar cells, as well as antireflective and photosensitive coatings. New materials and structures such as ZnO- and Co-based nanostructures, tandem configurations, and HIT structures were developed to enhance photovoltaic efficiency. Experimental studies using PECVD, sol-gel, spray pyrolysis, and anodization techniques improved the performance characteristics of photovoltaic devices. As a result, practical recommendations, laboratory setups, prototypes, and scientific-technical solutions were developed, contributing to reduced energy consumption and improved industrial energy efficiency.
