Purpose: Investigation of the process of low-temperature firing of a charge based on manganese and chromium-containing waste to produce metallized pellets. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were solved: Calculations of the firing charge based on manganese and chromium-containing waste were carried out. Experiments on granulation of the charge were carried out. A laboratory installation has been developed for conducting experiments on charge firing. Laboratory experiments have been conducted on firing a charge based on manganese-containing waste to produce metallized pellets based on iron and manganese. The mechanical and physico-chemical properties of metallized pellets have been studied. Relevance: The relevance of the work lies in the need for efficient use of accumulated waste from the processing of chromite and manganese ores, which allows not only to reduce the environmental burden, but also to create high-quality metallized pellets for the metallurgical industry. The development of technology for solid-phase firing of waste to produce commercial products (ferroalloys) contributes to the processing of secondary resources and improving product quality. With the growing demand for resource-efficient technologies, this work is of significant importance for the economy and the environment, contributing to the development of ferrous metallurgy and waste recycling.

Results obtained: Within the research project, a fundamentally new approach to processing manganese- and chromium-containing beneficiation wastes was developed, involving a comprehensive study of their material composition and metal occurrence forms. Thermodynamic and experimental investigations of reduction processes were carried out, and the mechanisms of iron, manganese, and chromium oxide reduction were established. Methods of air-gravity beneficiation and charge preparation using waste materials and carbonaceous reductants were developed. Metallized manganese and chromium pellets were produced, and optimal roasting parameters and their properties were determined. A laboratory setup was designed, and high-temperature smelting regimes were optimized to obtain high-quality ferromanganese and ferrochrome. A techno-economic assessment confirmed the efficiency and industrial potential of the developed technology.
