AP13068313 — Development of a new design of a modular wind turbine with a fixed vertical axle

Objective of the project:  Design, calculation and manufacture of a new design of an MWT with a power of 3 kW with a simplified manufacturing technology.

Relevance of the project: Wind energy is currently in increasing demand in the world, since it is environmentally friendly, autonomous and, taking into account the stable rise in the price of fossil fuels, the cost of wind energy is becoming more and more competitive. Among WTs, turbines with a vertical axis of rotation are of great interest. These schemes have been known for a long time, but their use is hindered by the presence of a long vertical shaft. The difficulty is the manufacture of such a shaft (length more than 50 diameters) and its installation. The cost of WTs is also significantly determined by the cost of the shaft. To solve this problem, it is proposed to use a fixed axle in the WT on which the bushings are attached to which the rotor is attached, the rotation of the bushings is transmitted to the generator through the gear pair. The production of such a scheme will be technologically simpler and cheaper. For the implementation of WTs, the principle of modularity can be applied, it will be collected it from modules. Such a scheme will greatly simplify the transportation of the WT and its installation on site.

Results obtained:  Within the research project, the stages of design, manufacturing, and testing of a modular wind energy unit (MWEU) were carried out. Based on literature and patent analysis, technical specifications were developed, and design calculations and documentation were created using CAD/CAE tools. The main components were manufactured and assembled, followed by an assessment of wind energy potential to determine the optimal installation location. The unit was tested, and recommendations for operation and further application were developed. The proposed system demonstrates low cost, mobility, and high efficiency under variable wind conditions. The results confirm the feasibility of implementing MWEU for energy supply in remote areas and for the development of renewable energy.
