Research Laboratory of Digital and Computer Simulation of Ore Mining Technologies for Deposits of Varying Structural Complexity

Scientific Supervisor: Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Rakishev B.R.

Objective — to conduct research aimed at improving the efficiency of drilling-and-blasting and excavation-and-loading operations in preparatory and stoping workings of open pits and mines, based on innovative methods of automated design of rational parameters for mining technologies at solid mineral deposits of varying structural complexity in Kazakhstan.

Laboratory tasks:

  1. Development of analytical methods for calculating parameters of drilling-and-blasting and excavation-and-loading operations in preparatory and stoping workings of open pits and mines;
  2. Development of software and systems for automated design of drilling-and-blasting and excavation-and-loading operation parameters in preparatory and stoping workings of open pits and mines;
  3. Development of analytical methods for calculating the results of drilling-and-blasting and excavation-and-loading operations in preparatory and stoping workings of open pits and mines — i.e., the particle size distribution of blasted rock mass and the efficiency of drilling-and-blasting operations;
  4. Development of software and systems for automated forecasting of drilling-and-blasting and excavation-and-loading operations in preparatory and stoping workings of open pits and mines;
  5. Measurement of the particle size distribution of blasted rock using modern portable equipment — PortaMetrics Gen 2 by MotionMetrics — for rapid on-site grain size determination.

Clients: Altynalmas JSC, Kazzinc LLP, KAZ Minerals, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, Kostanai Minerals JSC, ERG Research Centre LLP, Sokolovsko-Sarbaiskoye Mining and Processing Production Association JSC, and other subsoil users.

Laboratory's uniqueness — the laboratory employs modern methods and technologies for the development of software products for automated design of drilling-and-blasting, excavation-and-loading, and other mining operation parameters, as well as for forecasting and modelling of mineral extraction technologies; additionally, state-of-the-art equipment is used for experimental validation of analytical methods for calculating mining operation parameters.

Effectiveness: Negotiations are currently underway with potential clients for the execution of commercial contract projects.

Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
