Ore Beneficiation Research Laboratory

Scientific Supervisor: Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Barmenshinova M.B.

Objective: To conduct ore and non-metallic mineral beneficiation studies and to develop ore processing technologies.

Laboratory tasks:

  • development of beneficiation technologies and flow sheets;
  • obtaining data required for the design of new processing plants;
  • obtaining data required for improving beneficiation technology at existing plants;
  • obtaining data required for testing new machinery and reagents.

Services provided:

  • preparation of ore samples for chemical analysis (crushing, grinding);
  • sieve and sedimentation analyses;
  • gravity beneficiation tests using a concentration table, jig machine, and centrifugal concentrator;
  • magnetic beneficiation tests;
  • flotation beneficiation tests using mechanical and pneumomechanical flotation machines;
  • electrical beneficiation tests;
  • beneficiation studies using gravity, flotation, magnetic, and electrical methods (the method is selected based on the characteristics of the feed material).

Laboratory's uniqueness compared to similar facilities: Compared to similar well-known laboratories in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ore Beneficiation Research Laboratory is equipped with all the necessary testing equipment for conducting high-quality beneficiation studies of ferrous, non-ferrous, and precious metal ores, as well as non-metallic raw materials — including, in particular, the ELKOR-1 drum-type electrostatic separator, which enables research and development of beneficiation technologies for rare metal ores.

Since 2023, six commercial contracts have been completed for a total of 32.2 million tenge. To date, an R&D project with Kazakhmys Corporation LLP has been approved, with a contract for 15 million tenge at the signing stage. The opening of the laboratory has already allowed the recovery of nearly 50 million tenge (25% of equipment costs).

Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 4 — Quality Education;

SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth;

SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure;

SDG 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production;

SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals
