Engineering Profile Laboratory
Objective.
The primary objectives of the laboratory are: to conduct fundamental, exploratory, and applied research, experimental and development work, and innovative activities in the main and priority directions of science and technology, including the Material Science, Energy, and Earth Science clusters.
Tasks.
- to organise the execution of fundamental and applied scientific research in priority areas of scientific and innovative activity;
- to modernise research infrastructure and update scientific equipment;
- to ensure the integration of science and education, as well as science and business; to implement the principle of "Learning through Research";
- to develop domestic and international cooperation with leading scientific institutions for the purpose of conducting joint scientific research on mutually beneficial terms; to publish joint articles, book chapters, and monographs;
- to provide scientific and analytical services to clients;
- to implement the results of R&D into production; to orient scientific research towards the needs of business structures; to attract business partners for the execution of fundamental and applied scientific research.
Main areas of activity.
Material Science cluster
- development of technology for producing silicon-carbon-containing materials for filtration systems;
- development of catalytic systems for the neutralisation of persistent organic pollutants;
- development of nanocellulose materials based on plant raw materials.
Energy cluster
- development of photoactive materials for green energy.
Earth Science cluster
- development of an effective multifunctional encapsulating compound for increasing agricultural crop yields;
- development of sorbents for wastewater treatment.
Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 4 — quality education through the training of highly qualified specialists in the technical sciences;
SDG 6 — clean water and sanitation through the development of sorbents for wastewater treatment;
SDG 13 — climate action through the development of an effective encapsulating compound for increasing agricultural crop yields;
SDG 15 — life on land through the development of photoactive materials for green energy;
SDG 17 — partnerships for the goals through the organisation of scientific team collaboration for the implementation of global interdisciplinary projects.
