Chemical and Analytical Research Laboratory

Scientific Supervisor: Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Kubekova Sh.N.

Objective: To provide services to chemical and mining-metallurgical enterprises and the business sector of Kazakhstan in conducting comprehensive studies of the material and mineral composition of ore raw materials and their processing products using modern instrumental methods and equipment.

Laboratory tasks: To carry out, for all interested parties, comprehensive studies of chemical and mineralogical composition, textural-structural morphological and topographic characteristics, as well as examination of the optical properties of ore-forming and rock-forming minerals and techno-mineral formations of the mining and metallurgical sector.

Clients: Kazphosphate LLP, Kazazot LLP, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, Kazzinc LLP, KAZ Minerals, Kostanai Minerals JSC, Delma LLP, and other subsoil users.

Laboratory's uniqueness compared to similar facilities:

The laboratory is equipped with a powerful energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer with polarisation — the second-generation Rigaku NEX CG II. The Rigaku NEX CG II is a multi-element, versatile spectrometer.

Advantages:

  • the presence of an optical system (the so-called Cartesian geometry "CG" configuration), which significantly increases the signal-to-background ratio;
  • monochromatic secondary target excitation, instead of conventional direct excitation, which further enhances the instrument's sensitivity;
  • near-non-destructive analysis of elements from sodium (Na) to uranium (U);
  • capability to analyse a wide range of materials: from oils and liquids to solids, metals, polymers, powders, pastes, coatings, and thin films;
  • user-friendly QuantEZ RPF-SQX software on a Windows platform;
  • X-ray tube power of 50 kV for a broad range of elements;
  • large-area silicon drift detector (SDD) with high throughput.

Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 4 — Quality Education;

SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth;

SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure;

SDG 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production;

SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals
