AP26104611 "Modeling the impact of microplastics on health and developing wastewater treatment methods to improve the quality of water systems"
Relevance
Microplastic pollution in water resources poses a significant threat to human health and ecosystems. Its impact is not fully understood, and existing treatment methods are often insufficient. Therefore, modeling microplastic distribution and developing effective removal technologies are highly relevant for improving water quality.
Purpose
The project's goal is to assess health risks associated with the presence of microplastics in aquatic environments and to develop wastewater treatment technologies to reduce its concentration. This should contribute to improving the quality of water resources. To achieve this goal, the project addresses several key tasks: modeling the distribution of microplastics in aquatic environments, studying its impact on human health and ecosystems, and developing and optimizing wastewater treatment methods.
Expected and achieved results
Analysis of microplastic content in regional water systems and development of a conceptual distribution model; numerical models and software developed for simulating microplastic transport in hydro-ecosystems; first microplastic sampling and analysis method developed in Kazakhstan, coagulation-based water treatment studied; ready for implementation in urban and industrial water treatment systems and for scientific research.
