NILAS Testing Laboratory
1. General information
The Testing Laboratory "Research Laboratory of Architecture and Construction" (NILAS) is a structural unit of Satbayev University and operates pursuant to Rector's Order No. 265-Ö dated 12.06.2017.
Since 2018, the laboratory has been accredited for compliance with the requirements of GOST ISO/IEC 17025-2019; Certificate No. KZ.T.02.2122, valid until December 2028.
The scope of accreditation covers 40 product types (primary) and 8 product types (additional).
2. Mission
To ensure the quality, safety, and innovative development of Kazakhstan's construction sector through the conduct of certified testing, scientific research, and the implementation of modern control technologies.
3. Main areas of activity
3.1. Testing of construction materials and structures
NILAS performs testing of concrete, soils, metal structures, welded joints, thermal insulation materials, brick, ceramics, sand, crushed stone, dry mixes, and other materials.
3.2. Non-destructive testing
The extended scope of accreditation includes inspection of pipelines, metal structures, tanks, and steel construction structures.
3.3. Research and development activities
NILAS implements grant and research projects, including the "Zhas Galym" project (2025–2027, funding of 30 million tenge).
3.4. Commercial contracts
The laboratory carries out commercial testing for construction and industrial companies. Clients include: SAPATEK CONSTRUCTION LLP, Engineering Networks TC LLP, South Kaznedr RSE, Belek LLP, and GMS Construction LLP.
4. Goals and tasks
- compliance with the requirements of GOST ISO/IEC 17025-2019;
- expansion of the scope of accreditation;

- participation in interlaboratory comparisons;

- attraction of new clients.
5. NILAS's contribution to achieving UN SDG No. 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
5.1. Development of sustainable infrastructure (9.1): testing of materials and structures ensures the reliability of buildings, roads, engineering networks, and industrial facilities.
5.2. Modernisation and energy efficiency (9.4): NILAS conducts testing of thermal insulation materials, lightweight concrete, and energy-efficient blocks.
5.3. Scientific research and innovation (9.5): the laboratory implements grants, introduces new testing methods, and develops its technological base.
5.4. Development of domestic technologies (9.b): use of modern non-destructive testing instruments, development of testing methodologies, enhancement of specialist competencies.
5.5. Digitalisation and data management (9.c): NILAS ensures electronic record-keeping, data protection, and digital resilience.
6. Conclusion
NILAS is a key scientific and production centre of Satbayev University, ensuring the quality of construction materials and structures, supporting innovation, and making a significant contribution to the realisation of UN SDG No. 9 — the development of sustainable infrastructure, industrialisation, and the scientific and technological potential of Kazakhstan.
